Dr. C. Kent Kwoh, professor of medicine and epidemiology in the university’s division of rheumatology and clinical immunology studied 201 people over 24 weeks. One positive aspect of the results is that Glucosamine may have a role to play in managing the related pain of osteoarthritis but not in repairing the joint itself.

The results of the study on glucosamine and osteoarthritis make informative reading. Unfortunately, these drugs can come at a huge cost for the average sufferer and are not always nationally funded. This article by the Calgary Herald gives a concise overview of AS and determines the future prospects for current and undiagnosed sufferers. Highly recommended …

Given the world-wide interest in magnets and copper bracelets as a means of relieving or eliminating arthritis pain, a placebo-controlled study by a research fellow at the University of York, UK has provided strong evidence that copper bracelets and magnets are ineffective for relieving arthritis pain.

The study involved more than 50 participants who were all osteoarthritis sufferers and measured the effect of these devices on participants pain, stiffness and physical function. The concluding opinion is that any perceived benefit is attributed to psychological placebo effects and that people should be very careful about how much money they spend on purchasing magnetic bracelets and copper bracelets.
